Punch Your Way to Fitness this Fall at Lake County Family YMCA

There’s a fresh way to get into fitness this fall at Lake County Family YMCA. While keeping core classes free for its members, the Ys in Vernon Hills and Waukegan have added specialty classes for those wishing to “kick it up a notch.” In addition, a new punch-pass system allows participants to create their own routine for a single fee with no registration required. This new way of taking fitness classes at Lake County Family YMCA is available to members of the Y and the community.

Zumba Fund-raiser at Waukegan Y to Showcase Different Styles

Come dance, mingle and have fun as Northern Lake YMCA hosts a special Zumba class Saturday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Proceeds from this fund-raising event will help the Y purchase a new sound system for use in its fitness classes.

Lake County Family YMCA Hosts Free Health Screenings in September

Rosalind Franklin University Health System’s mobile health unit, Community Care Connection, has scheduled stops at both Lake County Family YMCA branches in September. Blood pressure, blood sugar/diabetes and cholesterol screenings plus BMI (body mass index) and waist measurements will be available to persons of all ages free of charge. In addition, those with questions about healthy eating can get answers from the registered nurse onboard.

Vernon Hills Y Swimmers Win NISC Championship Event

The Vernon Hills-based Central Lake YMCA Turtles Swim Team completed its summer season in top form by finishing in first place at the Northern Illinois Swim Conference (NISC) Division C championship meet in Hawthorn Woods. A total of six teams from Lake and Cook counties participated in the July 25 finals.
